Tibet Corps as a concept was developed in 2011 with support from the Isdell Foundation to address the need for a community service platform that could tap into the growing and global talent pool of Tibetan retirees, professionals and university students. Sikyong, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, then Kalon Tripa, made Tibet Corps one of the signature initiatives of his administration and launched the program in 2012. The program is administered by the Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD) under CTA’s Department of Finance. An Advisory Committee was established in 2018 to support the work of Tibet Corps and the Program Coordinator.
Isdell Foundation provided the seed funding and was the sole funder through 2018. Tibet Corps is now funded by USAID under the Tibetan-Self Reliance and Resilience (TSRR) Program.
